City customer offices subject to rapid Covid-19 closures, when required
16 July 2021
City of Cape Town customers are reminded that customer offices, including walk-in revenue and motor vehicle registration centres across the metro, are subject to rapid closures due to Covid-19 regulations, when required. Due to the Covid-19 third wave, some offices are closing on a daily basis for deep cleansing if there are confirmed Covid-19 cases. During such times, affected offices close for a number of hours to ensure it is safe again for staff and customers. Please phone ahead prior to visiting an office. We thank customers for their understanding.
The unplanned and rapid closure of offices often contributes to high volumes and potential service delays. Once the necessary deep-cleaning has been carried out, the City reopens the office to members of the public.
Customers are advised to check the City’s customer office operating hours by visiting the Operations and Service Notifications document on the City’s website. Residents may also phone their nearest customer office ahead of time to ensure that the office is open. When a City customer office is offline due to service provider system errors, the City and the service provider sees that the problem is resolved as soon as possible. Once the system is back online, the City alerts members of the public. The City regularly communicates its Covid-19 operational updates as fast as possible on the City’s CTAlerts page on Twitter.
‘We ask residents to plan ahead by calling their nearest customer office before travelling to an office. To ensure that members of the public and staff are safe, the City is required by law and based on the professional advice from the Occupational Health and Safety officials, to rapidly close and deep-clean an office once a positive Covid-19 case has been identified among our staff. The City ensures that all Covid-19 health and safety protocols are in place and are adhered to for the safety of City staff and members of the public. We thank residents for their support and patience,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance and Executive Deputy Mayor, Alderman Ian Neilson.
